The 'See No More' singer told MTV News that he considered the process of branching out on his own an opportunity to reflect on his romantic experiences, both positive and negative.
Jonas explained: "It was scary in the beginning just because I knew this is my one opportunity to show people my journal: the good and bad of every relationship I've been in, you know, [and] what I look for [in relationships]."
He also cited his Jonas Brothers siblings and life on the road as a catalyst for Fast Life but insisted that the material contained on the record would be a far cry from what fans of the group are used to.
"It was really, really cool to have those experiences [from] all my life [and] to be able to write about it and on my own," he said. "And also on the music side, it was a fun process. It was almost an evolution process, because in the beginning it sounded nothing like it is now."
Joe recently said that his brothers support his solo career while Nick has previously promised that the band is not breaking up.
