The 25-year-old singer-songwriter nearly gave up on her career and returned back to Oregon before being introduced to producer Alex da Kid, who has worked on her debut album Invisible due to be released later this year.
"Things kinda fell apart with my career and my personal life, so I just retreated up in the woods in Oregon just to get away from LA and the whole music industry," she told RapUp. "I felt like I lost touch with who I was as a person, as an artist."
Grey, who is also responsible for Eminem and Rihanna hit 'Love The Way You Lie', revealed that Lady GaGa was among a list of singers considered for Dre's 'I Need A Doctor', but Eminem insisted Grey's vocals remained on the track.
"Eminem was like, 'We are not taking her vocals off the song!' So I got kept on there and it changed my life."
Dre also supported the decision, with Grey explaining: "He's one of the most stand-up guys that I've met in the music industry. [He's] so nice, made a point to take me aside and tell me privately how grateful he was for my work on his album."
Skylar Grey recently unveiled her debut single 'Invisible' after signing a record deal with Interscope earlier this year.
