Urbont alleges that the Wu-Tang Clan rapper illegally sampled his theme tune to the 1960s Iron Man animated TV series, Rolling Stone reports.
The theme was sampled in two tracks on Ghostface Killah's 2000 solo album Supreme Clientele. It is yet to be revealed why the complaint has been filed more than a decade after the record was released.
Ghostface Killah is said to be a fan of the Marvel superhero. One of his songs appeared on the soundtrack to the 2008 movie Iron Man and he appears in one of the film's deleted scenes, which was included on the DVD and Blu-ray releases.
The rapper occasionally operates under the name Tony Starks, a variation on Iron Man's alter ego Tony Stark. Urbont claims that the artist should pay royalties for his association to the superhero.
Sony Music Entertainment is yet to comment on the matter.
