The group were on their way to the first non-UK gig on their 'Progress' tour in Milan when the storm occurred, according to The Mirror.
"The plane took off fairly normally, though we knew there was bad weather ahead, but midway during the flight the turbulence was really quite frightening," a source said.
"Then suddenly, there was a bright flash, and the plane had obviously been struck by lightning. The pilot had to make an announcement and reassure the passengers that everything was all right."
Take That frontman Gary Barlow once spoke of his fears of dying in a plane crash, joking that he would be overlooked while flying with David Beckham and Gordon Ramsay.
He said: "I could just see how that would be written, 'Football star and top chef in plane crash'. Then in the last paragraph, 'Pop singer Gary Barlow was also on the plane'."
Take That recently announced that their next single will be 'When We Were Young', which will also be used in the upcoming film The Three Musketeers.
