The group, who released their latest track 'Glad You Came' this week', also said that they were "impressed" with the sales of the track, which has currently sold over 50,000 copies.
"It's looking really good, fingers crossed that it stays that way!" Nathan Sykes told Digital Spy of holding on to the top spot until Sunday.
"'Touch wood' has become our phrase of the week. It feels like a long time coming since our last number one 'All Time Low', so it would be great to get another one."
On whether chart positions are important to the band, he admitted: "We always like the idea of selling more than our last single did to prove that we're getting better - I'd be a bit gutted if we only sold 200 copies this week, even if it did go to number one!"
Hinting at the group's next release ahead of their second studio album, he teased: "We're writing a lot of songs, and our next single has a different sound to what we imagine any boyband would ever consider releasing."
