The 'Ignition' musician was rushed to hospital in Chicago on Tuesday to have an abscess on one of his tonsils drained.
Kelly wrote on Twitter: "I'd like to thank everybody for their love, concern and support. I will be back!"
He also alluded to his throat problems in an earlier tweet, writing last week that he did not want to "take another cup of theraflu" and felt like he was getting better.
Kelly's publicist Allan Mayer confirmed yesterday that the singer would be "laid up indefinitely" at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The musician is reportedly facing a $2.9m (£1.8m) foreclosure suit on his Chicago home after allegations that he has not paid his mortgage for a year.
