The Gorillaz star will lead a team of producers to record the album in the Democratic Republic of Congo and will have seven days to complete it.
The collective - to be known as DRC Music - will include Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Dan The Automator, Kwes, Jneiro Jarel, XL's Richard Russell, Actress, Marc Antoine and Jo Gunton.
The project has been organised with Oxfam, who are expected to receive proceeds from the profits of the album.
Albarn has worked on similar ventures in the past, most notably in 2001 where he worked with Oxfam in Mali.
The former Blur musician is currently performing his self-penned opera Dr Dee: An English Opera as part of the Manchester International Festival.
Blur drummer Dave Rowntree previously fuelled speculation that the band will reunite again in 2011 to work on new material.
