Snow Patrol cover Lennon for Amnesty

Snow Patrol have covered John Lennon's 'Isolation' for Amnesty International's Sudan campaign.

The band's work will contribute to an online video message with pictures and interviews. It highlights the need to convict war criminals for the mass rape of women in the country.

They were apparently convinced to do the work by seasoned activist Bono, and Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody praised the combination of music and campaigning.

"I support Amnesty because we have lived our whole lives in freedom," he explained. "Music is a good way of bringing awareness to people without ramming it down their throats because it is something everyone can relate to.

"Amnesty is not regarded as political or religious or anything like that. It's basically helping people whose basic human rights are being denied. It's like helping people who can't help themselves."
