The Australian singer, whose mother is Grease star Olivia Newton-John, has caused controversy with the promo for her second single 'Play With Me' by showing herself with a gun to her head, cutting herself and electrocuting herself with a toaster in the bath.
The video also features domestic violence, drug-taking, alcohol and smoking, plus a man sitting on the toilet. It has received over 6,000 hits on YouTube and comes with a viewer warning reading: "The following vid contains graphic imagery and is intended for entertainment purposes only."
Lattanzi, who has battled an eating disorder in the past, has now told the Herald Sun: "It's about dying inside in front of the one you love, and that person not noticing what's really going on inside you, being unseen, unheard and desperate for love and attention. The concept is actually quite dark, but not literal in meaning."
She has also released a video in which she says: "I don't want to kill myself, I don't want to die, I don't want to kill anybody, I don't want anyone to die, it's all just in the name of fun. Some people are taking it a little too seriously and getting preachy and all this bulls**t. But it is an artist's job to challenge ideas. I have a lot of gratitude though for your attention to me. Bring on the negativity because I love the attention."
Newton-John has not commented publicly on the controversy, but her publicist promoted it via Twitter.
Lattanzi got engaged to James Driskill last year. Newton-John later said that she is "looking forward" to being mother-of-the-bride.
