The N-Dubz star told BBC Newsbeat that he had to compete with other urban acts.
"I need to aim high, if it goes to five, six, seven, I will be devastated," he said. "Example went to number one and he smashed it and I rate that guy.
"Wiley's had couple of number ones, Tinie [Tempah]'s had number ones, Tinchy [Stryder]'s had number ones."
Dappy added: "I need to make sure I keep up on that level. If I'm not anywhere near them in the chart I feel like I'm bad at that.
"I've been waiting for this moment all my life and it's the first three and a half minutes of magic that I've made. I want it to be one of the best records that comes out this year."
