Diana Vickers has revealed plans to release an EP of new material before the end of the year.

The former X Factor contestant told fans that the songs will precede a new single and album in 2012.

Vickers said: "The album and the new single won't be coming out until early next year, but I've had a good, hard think about this and I kind of can't wait much longer for you to hear some of the stuff I've been doing.

"I've decided to - later on this year, soon - to release a small EP with some songs that I've been doing and for you guys to hear.

"That'll happen pretty soon. No date's set in stone, but that will happen this year, and I really, really can't wait for you to hear it."

Vickers parted company with record label RCA earlier this month. She has said that the follow-up to 2010's chart-topping Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree has been influenced by '80s Madonna.

She added that she didn't want fans to have to wait until next year and promised that the new songs will soon be available for download.

"I've got so many songs, more than 30 now, and not all of them can make the album," Vickers said. "I wanted to pick some of my favourite ones and show you.

"I know you're all so excited as much as I am to get it out there and it seems a long wait so to break it up I'm going to give you some special tracks."
