Aretha Franklin has unveiled plans to perform a free concert in New York City.

The soul singer will take to the stage live at Coney Island in Brooklyn on Thursday night, reports the New York Daily News.

"I'm looking for a great audience," Franklin said. "They will get to hear everything that they came to hear - all of the hits."

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz told the publication that he expects up to 10,000 fans to turn out for the event, which will take place at Surf Avenue and West 21st Street.

"I'm thrilled that she's here. She's the kind of entertainer that's adored the world over," Markowitz said.

Franklin was forced to cancel a number of gigs last year, including two in Brooklyn, due to health problems which were reportedly due to pancreatic cancer.

By May 2011, Franklin insisted that she was back to full health, and feels "fabulous" and ready to return to the stage.
