The 'Poker Face' star recently claimed that she was so devastated on hearing of WInehouse's death that she "could not speak for 48 hours straight".
A supposed Hollywood insider told the Daily Star: "Lady GaGa worshipped Amy and would love nothing more than to transform herself into her idol on the big screen.
"She'd be spot on performing Amy's songs and has got the right look and bolshy attitude. GaGa's been itching to make the transition from music into movies and sees this as the ideal role to launch her film career."
They added: "GaGa's management team had been discussing possible film ventures before Amy's untimely death. But there's only ever been one role she wants and that's to play Amy."
A year before her death, Winehouse's representatives denied reports that she and GaGa would collaborate on a record.
Both singers will feature on Tony Bennett's upcoming Duets II album. Winehouse's contribution will trail the album as a charity single and proceeds will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
