The bad weather led to the rig falling down onto the band's equipment on stage, according to News OK. No-one was injured in the accident.
Singer Wayne Coyne said: "The Oklahoma wind and rain was a little bit more unpredictable than we had hoped, and we had a bad gust. The whole thing is shambolic and a bit dangerous and we're working to get as much off of the stage before we get hit with the second wave."
Coyne was reported to have run on stage to gather the group's instruments while the wind and rain grew stronger.
He later tweeted a series of messages which read: "F**K!!!! Wind and rain destroyed the stage!!!!! Show is cancelled!!!! Devastation!!!"
Cheap Trick escaped unhurt during a similar incident at a concert in Ottawa last month.
The Flaming Lips recently announced plans to produce a stage musical based on their 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
