A report in US gossip magazine Star explained how Matthew and Jared Followill had "started to resent Caleb's antics as he was late to rehearsals, neglectful of band meetings and displaying diva traits". The pair had also reportedly planned on taking over Caleb's lead vocal duties in the future.
Drummer Nathan Followill took to his Twitter account to quash the rumours, writing: "BREAKING NEWS: Kings Of Leon has kicked Caleb out and Jared and Matt will be taking over lead vocals. Where do people come up with this s**t? Hilarious."
The group were forced to cancel the remainder of their US tour after Caleb's increasingly erratic behaviour on stage, blamed on exhaustion.
Caleb has since been rumoured to be entering rehab in the wake of the band's hiatus.
