Minogue's international breakthrough hit 'I Should Be So Lucky', which topped the Australian charts, is among ten new sounds that have been added to the National Film and Sound Archive's 'Sounds of Australia' registry this week.
Federal arts minister Simon Crean explained: "The registry is an opportunity to help choose the music, speeches, jingles, natural and man-made sounds to be preserved for future generations."
Other new additions to the 'Sounds of Australia' archive for 2011 include The Seekers' 'I'll Never Find Another You' and Skyhooks' classic album Living in the '70s.
Recordings of the maiden speeches of Australia's first two female Federal MPs and the first known audio of indigenous Australian music - made in 1898 - have also entered the archives.
A panel of industry experts selected the shortlist from over 100 nominations made by the public.
News.com.au also produced its own alternative top ten list for the archives, featuring catchphrases from comedies Kath and Kim and Summer Heights High, music from Powderfinger and Silverchair, Russell Crowe's speech from his Oscar-winning role in Gladiator and former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd 's "I'm sorry" speech given to the Stolen Generation in 2008.
