The singer has met with producers Afrojack, Dr Luke, RedOne, Benny Blanco and Max Martin about working on the follow-up to 2010's The Sun Comes Out, according to Shakira-Media.
The 'She Wolf' star has also approached underground club DJ Venus X, who has revealed that Shakira is eager to produce a dance-inspired album.
"I'm sending her a lot of hyrbrid-oriented stuff - Turkish reggaaton, a lot of kuduro that sounds like African trance," Venus X told The Fader.
"Hopefully I'll be able to introduce her to things that are working on the dancefloor so she can translate and reinterpret them for universal pop."
She added: "Shakira wants to make dance music. She's always been ahead of the curve. With 'Ojos Asi', she was doing Arabic instrumentals with Spanish vocals."
Skakira recently revealed at a festival in Morocco that she would like to record a full album in Arabic, despite not being able to speak the language.
