The 'Love You Like a Love Song' singer revealed that she is thrilled to be taking on the hosting duties for this year's pre-show, describing the gig as a "true honour".
"I am very excited to be a part of the 2011 VMAs," Gomez said in a statement. "After all of my years watching the VMAs, the pre-show has always been one of my favourite parts. It is a true honour to be hosting from the black carpet this year."
Gomez will be joined by the band Cobra Starship, who will perform their hit song 'You Make Me Feel…' with the help of rapper Sabi.
"I grew up watching [the MTV VMAs] every year," guitarist Ryland Blackinton said of the awards show. "It was an honour to be nominated two years ago and it is an even bigger honour to be able to play the pre-show this year."
He continued: "I will never forget when Pat Smear left the Foo Fighters live during the pre-show, and I'm planning on having him replace me this year."
Lady GaGa was recently named as the opening act for the Video Music Awards themselves.
Gomez, who is currently dating fellow musician Justin Bieber, will take the black carpet at 8pm.
The MTV Video Music Awards 2011 air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28 at 9pm ET/PT.
