'What The Water Gave Me' is the first to be previewed from the group's forthcoming second studio album, which is due out on November 7.
The accompanying music video showcases behind-the-scenes footage of frontwoman Florence Welch and her band recording new material.
The song has been described as a "taster" of her new LP, and is available to download from iTunes now.
"It's a song for the water, because in music and art what I'm really interested in are the things that are overwhelming," Welch said.
"The ocean seems to me to be nature's great overwhelmer. When I was writing this song I was thinking a lot about all those people who've lost their lives in vain attempts to save their loved ones from drowning.
"It's about water in all forms and all bodies. It's about a lot of things; Virginia Woolf creeps into it, and of course Frieda Kahlo, whose painfully beautiful painting gave me the title."
Florence + the Machine first previewed 'What The Water Gave Me' live during a gig in California back in June.
The record's producer Paul Epworth recently claimed that the band's new material is very strong.
