'All For You', the Australian band's first single in 13 years, was the last song that they recorded with drummer Steve Prestwich before he died from a brain tumour in January this year.
Don Walker told The Daily Telegraph: "This is the last recording we made with Steve so it makes it pretty special for us." The pianist wrote the song in 2009 before the group decided to reunite, but said that he knew the song was made for them.
"I think the story in the song is very Cold Chisel," he further explained. "I guess I could hear [lead singer Jimmy Barnes] singing it - but then Jim could sing most things. I think he sang it perfectly as it needed to be sung; he tells the story beautifully."
Walker, Barnes and their bandmates have decided to give the song away as a free download in a bid to encourage fans to help decide what songs should be selected for upcoming album All For You: The Best of Cold Chisel.
After Prestwich's death, the group decided to draft in US musician Charley Drayton to replace him.
