Pete Doherty has opened up for the first time about his spell in prison.

The Libertines singer-songwriter, who was released in July after spending five months in jail, admitted that he has had "a rotten old few months".

Writing on his blog Albion Rooms, he disclosed: "I can't tell you the sense of relief now I'm finally free to crack on with my life. It's been a rotten old few months and I don't mind admitting it."

Doherty was sentenced to jail for the possession of cocaine back in May after pleading guilty to the charges brought against him.

The 32-year-old, describing his "shambolic" return to the stage at the Stoke Underground on Wednesday night, added: [This] is first outing since the sentencing, prison, tag, sequence that just ended... although the sods haven't yet removed the actual tag."

Reports of a Libertines reunion earlier this week were quickly shot down by Doherty's former bandmate Carl Barat.
