The band were due to headline the NME/Radio 1 Stage at Reading last night, but pulled out of the show, citing the severe swelling of singer Perry Farrell's vocal chords as the reason for the cancellation.
The band have since pulled out of tonight's appearance at Leeds Festival as Farrell's condition has failed to improve.
A statement issued by the band said: "Jane's Addiction regretfully had to cancel their scheduled headline performance on the NME/Radio 1 stage at this year's Reading Festival as singer Perry Farrell was unable to perform due to the severe swollen condition of his throat.
"Although Farrell was treated earlier in the day by top local London physicians and had his heart set on trying to perform under any circumstance, in the end he was completely unable to produce any sound vocally. Jane's Addiction would like to deeply apologise to the fans for any inconvenience."
A fresh statement released ahead of their scheduled Leeds set read: "This morning in London his doctor determined that Perry Farrell's vocal condition remains unchanged from last night. Farrell has been ordered to not use his voice until further notice for risk of vocal damage. His condition remains day to day.
"Again Jane's Addiction wishes to convey their sincere apologies to the fans who had been looking forward to their scheduled performances at Reading and Leeds."
Crystal Castles, who were due to play before Jane's Addiction tonight at Leeds, will now headline the tent.
