The iconic Queen frontman would have turned 65 today. He passed away in 1991.
Perry paid tribute to the star, saying in a YouTube video: "You've inspired us all and you've inspired me especially. Without you I wouldn't be making music or doing what I do."
Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance said that Queen were inspirational to the band and that Mercury was "probably the most important frontman to [him] growing up as little boy".
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins continued the tributes by saying: "Freddie, we miss you and love you. I owe you everything, you were the first concert I ever saw and since then I've been chasing the dream. I owe that to you."
Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump added to the birthday wishes by saying that he was "sorry [Freddie] was not still around to see the profound effect [he] has had on pop music".
Jim Henson puppet Miss Piggy also expressed birthday salutations to the singer as the "queen of the silverscreen wish[ed] the fabulous lead singer of the band Queen a happy birthday".
Meanwhile, Google has paid tribute to Mercury by dedicating an animated doodle on its homepage to him.
