Pastor Fred Phelps and his congregation plan to hold a rally outside the Sprint Centre in Kansas City, KS, when Foo Fighters perform on September 16.
The Westboro Baptist Church claimed that it is targeting Foo Fighters because the group are not using their celebrity to promote "obedience to God".
The organisation said in a statement: "These people have a platform and should be using it to encourage obedience to God; instead they teach every person who will listen all things contrary to him - fornication, adultery, idolatry, f*gs…
"The people in this nation have sinned away their day of grace and have so enraged their God that you are seeing new outpourings of his wrath continually. We will be there to remind you that the day of your destruction is upon you, even as you vainly seek comfort in the frivolities of this life."
The church has previously threatened to picket the funerals of the late Academy Award winner Elizabeth Taylor and Jackass star Ryan Dunn.
Director Kevin Smith reportedly modelled a fundamentalist church in his new film Red State on Phelps and his congregation.
