The former A&R executive - real name Santi White - delivered a high energy set featuring her breakthrough UK singles 'L.E.S Artistes' and 'Creator'.
Santigold selected at least half a dozen fans to come onto the stage to dance, turning on the house lights, gesturing and shouting: "Just come up!"
Her own backing dancers wielded a variety of props during the set, including sparkling gold pom-poms, hammers and umbrellas. As Santigold disappeared for a costume change, a white pantomime horse took to the stage in her place.
The musician frequently encouraged the crowd to clap and participate, waving her hands and encouraging the audience to do likewise "all the way to the back" of the tent.
Bestival guests arriving on the first day have also been entertained by a live performance from The La's and a DJ set from Richard X.
Acts including Brian Wilson, Patrick Wolf, Public Enemy and main stage headliners Pendulum are due to perform at the Rob da Bank-curated event tomorrow.
