The rapper, who was signed to Skinner's Beats label in 2006 before its demise a year later, revealed that he hasn't heard from the Streets frontman since his break a few years ago.
Example told #5 magazine: "I haven't heard from Mike for three or four years. I think it's weird."
Responding to whether he would have liked a phonecall from Skinner congratulating him on his recent number one singles, the London-born performer replied: "Yeah I would."
Example continued: "The only reason why I would have liked that call - because we spent so much time together on tour and I, like, didn't think we were best mates, but we were pretty close and shared some good times on tour - and to go from someone signing you and putting faith in you and wanting you to do well, which he did obviously and then to never hear from them for three or four years, I find that a bit weird."
The 'Stay Awake' star added: "I don't expect to be invited around to dinner, but a text or an email saying congratulations on your new song.
"Even if it said I don't like your new song but congratulations on your number one, at least I would have heard from him!"
Example's third studio LP Playing In The Shadows is on course to debut at number one on Sunday's UK album chart.
