Laura Marling wows crowd at intimate album launch

By
Laura Marling
Laura Marling played a stripped-back set at an intimate London venue last night to launch her new album A Creature I Don't Know.

The singer-songwriter walked on to a makeshift stage in the centre of The Crypt in Marylebone to a backing tape playing a male voice reading her own poem 'The Beast Was A Creature I Did Not Know'.

Marling played six songs from her new record, opening with an acoustic and unaccompanied performance of 'I Was Just A Card'. She then thanked the crowd before switching to a nylon-strung guitar for 'Night After Night'.

After apologising for not being able to face all four directions at once, Marling introduced her band and continued her unmiked performance.

Marling closed the mini-set with her current single 'Sophia'.

A series of full-size versions of the artwork from the album had also been placed around the venue to mark its launch.

The full Laura Marling setlist was as follows:

1. 'I Was Just A Card'
2. 'Night After Night'
3. 'Rest In The Bed'
4. 'Don't Ask Me Why'
5. 'Salinas'
6. 'Sophia'

Marling's third album A Creature I Don't Know is out now. She plays a sold-out tour of the UK next month.
