The Britain's Got Talent winner collaborated with the classical singer on a version of 'The Prayer', which was famously covered by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli in 1999.
McDowall told the Daily Record of working with the New Zealander: "When the label said I should record 'The Prayer' with Hayley, I jumped at the chance.
"She has the most incredible delicate vocal and she was a dream to work with."
Westenra commented: "I had so much fun recording this duet with Jai.
"He's a brilliant artist and person. Our voices worked well together and I can't wait for everyone to hear the track."
Following his win on the talent competition in June, McDowall signed a recording contract with Sony Music last month.
He will perform at the Royal Variety Performance later this year as a result of winning the series.
A release date for McDowall's debut album has yet to be confirmed.
