The band performed their new album Velociraptor! for 200 lucky fans on a stripped-down jumbo jet during an event organised by music video website VEVO.
The concert was the first ever VEVO Presents feature to be hosted in the UK and took place just outside the group's hometown of Leicester.
Frontman Tom Meighan said of the gig: "This will go down in history. We wanted to do something really memorable - and our fans are going to remember the day they saw us play in an aeroplane when they're old and grey.
"Working with VEVO to put this gig on has been incredible. The fact that it was in our hometown of Leicester made it extra special."
Serge Pizzorno added: "VEVO asked if we wanted to do a gig, so we thought we'd freak them out by saying we wanted to do it on a plane.
"Then they freaked us out by making it happen. It was what this band is all about - being on the edge.
"There have been guerrilla gigs before - but we're the first to do one on a plane."
