The Australian singer, who is best known for songs such as 'Mr Mysterious' and 'Absolutely Everybody', said that she was "embarrassed" to show fans the real her before writing 'This is Who I Am'.
Amarosi told the Courier-Mail: "Opening up for the first time felt unbelievable. 'This is Who I Am' was written in a way that no other writer could have written it. I was embarrassed about certain aspects of myself and thought I couldn't compare to massive international artists.
"I was very nervous about whether I could get away with writing a pop song so personal, then when it came in at number one I thought, 'Is that all it took?' That was a massive turning point as a writer. With something this personal, if it isn't accepted, it's a rejection of both your life story and what you do for a living."
She also revealed that the album reflects her varied taste in music from trance to hip-hop to pop.
In January this year, Amarosi said: "I really think I have come of age as a writer and a performer and I feel more comfortable than ever in my own skin. It's amazing how this whole album came so easy and naturally."
Earlier this month, former Australian Idol contestant Anthony Callea admitted that he would love to be a judge alongside Amarosi on the rumoured Australian version of talent show The Voice, saying that the country "has never seen a vocalist like her".
Amarosi's latest album V is scheduled for release on October 28 and her latest single 'Amazing' is out now.
