Adele has confirmed that she will start playing live shows in arenas next year.

The singer revealed her 2012 touring plans during her second night at London's Hammersmith Apollo yesterday.

She asked the audience: "Do you like seeing me in small venues like this one?"

After receiving a rapturous response from the crowd, she said: "This is the last time you'll catch me at a venue like this. These will be my last theatre dates as I'm moving on to arenas. I'll be at the O2 in February."

Following jeers and boos from the audience, Adele laughed: "Too many people want to see my shows, I have to. Don't worry, I'll still get into the crowd and everything. You know I don't like all that arena s**t!"

Prices and arena tour dates are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Adele is to play three remaining theatre shows in the UK before starting the US leg of her world tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey on October 7.
