The former American Idol winner, who is best known for hit singles such as 'Because of You' and 'Since You've Been Gone', has reportedly agreed to perform her latest single 'Mr Know It All' before kick-off at the ANZ Stadium on Sunday October 2.
It is believed that rugby bosses have been negotiating Clarkson's appearance with her record label Sony since June after deciding that the event needed a younger, female performer this year.
NRL spokesperson Paul Kind told The Daily Telegraph: "Kelly Clarkson is a great fit for the league given the broad support she has. She appeals to 8 to 80-year-olds and a lot of women."
Meat Loaf was recently announced as the headline act at this year's Australian Football League Grand Final. He said that he was annoyed when the event's organisers "tried to tell [him] what to sing", adding: "They're dreaming. Nobody can tell me what to sing."
Clarkson's fifth album Stronger is scheduled for release next month, while Meat Loaf's Hell in a Handbasket is out the day before the AFL final. Both singers performed at the NRL Grand Final back in 2003.
