The singer, who was performing at London's O2 Brixton Academy over the weekend, said that he will be taking a break from gigging to concentrate on other aspects of his career and life.
"This will be the last gig in a long time because we need to go and get some new things together so this is it for a while," NME quotes him as saying.
Doherty concluded his set with a dedication to two of his friends who have died within the past 18 months.
He added: "I want to dedicate this show to the memory of Robin Whitehead and Amy Winehouse, two good friends of mine. Here's a song I wrote for Amy."
Doherty then performed his recent Winehouse tribute track 'Amy's Song' for the packed-out venue.
The former Libertines star recently revealed that he wrote an alternative version of Winehouse's 'Back To Black' a few years ago, but confessed that "no-one seemed to like it".
