Matt Cardle has said that he is lucky to have had a lot of input on his upcoming debut album

Talking to his former mentor Dannii Minogue for MyDaily, the X Factor winner said that he "got rather emotional" when he first picked up a CD copy of Letters.

Cardle told MInogue: "The fact that I managed to have such an input on the album - I feel so lucky, still."

Of his current live set-up, he added: "We've got the band together with some friends of mine and some people I used to play in bands alongside when I was younger.

"If I'd had known it would be like this I would have gone in for X Factor myself a long time ago, rather than being shoved on by a friend."

Asked about the response from his parents to his success, Cardle said: "I'm still surprised my dad hasn't burst with pride. They've just been so great and so lovely about it.

"My dad was very impatient before... he'd go, 'Why haven't you done it yet, why haven't you made it yet?' And I'm like, 'I still haven't made it'. This is my opportunity to. But at least I'm going in the right direction now."
