Organisers of the event revealed gradually on Twitter that Kanye West and Soundgarden will be the headline acts for the Australian music festival at its 20th year celebrations at Flemington Racecourse.
Also confirmed were Kasabian, US band Foster the People and My Chemical Romance, plus Norwegian dance act Röyksopp, rap crew Odd Future and Cage the Elephant. Skateboard champion Tony Hawk will also be performing at the Melbourne event.
Local acts include The Living End, Hilltop Hoods, The Jezabels, Parkway Drive and Architecture in Helsinki.
Many of the acts playing at the Big Day Out 2012 festival also performed at the Splendour in the Grass festival in July this year, together with Coldplay.
Pearl Jam, Prince, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine and The Killers were all rumoured to be performing but have not been included in the official lineup.
An extra date for last year's Big Day Out was added due to high ticket demand. Performers included Tool, Iggy and the Stooges, Grinderman and Deftones.
Tickets for the event are scheduled to go on sale on October 14.
The full Big Day Out lineup for next year is as follows:
My Chemical Romance
The Living End
Boy and Bear
Mariachi El Bronx
Architecture in Helsinki
Odd Future (OFWGKTA)
The Getaway Plan
Cage The Elephant
