The X Factor winner will play Stacee Jaxx in musical Rock Of Ages for the next eight months, but said that he will return to the studio following his stint on the stage.
Ward told the Daily Star Sunday: "I'm loving being on stage but I'll be back in the studio to work on a new album to try to get a new record deal as soon as I've finished."
Ward was dropped by Simon Cowell's Syco record label in April after his third album Obsession failed to crack the Top 10 last year.
It was previously reported that the 26-year-old plans to look for Hollywood movie roles and has signed up to actors' agency CAM.
