The band will tell the story of the creation of their 1989 self-titled debut album, the delayed follow-up and the details of their split for the first time in a book to be released next year, reports The Independent.
The biography will be written by journalist Simon Spence, who is credited as the ghost writer of the memoirs of Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham.
Spence has spent over 400 hours interviewing all four members of the band - Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary Mounfield and Alan Wren - for the book, which will be titled 'Fool's Gold'.
Penguin will publish the biography, which is currently slated for an October 2012 release.
"The Stone Roses were the band of my generation," said publisher Joel Rickett. "They defined an era and made perhaps the best album ever - a flawless record that's as thrilling now as it was in 1989.
"They've refused to exploit or tarnish their legacy. So I'm thrilled that they've agreed to work with Simon Spence to tell their story. I can't think of a more exciting book to publish."
The release of the book has fuelled speculation that the band will reform, despite Brown and Squire both denying a possible reunion earlier this year.
