The star confirmed that the LP will be released sometime in 2012, and said that she has already written ten new songs for the record.
"They're sad, if I'm being honest," she admitted in an interview with The New Yorker, adding that her most recent track "is about moving on".
She explained that she sees singing as her main form of communication, saying: "I write songs, and my voice is just a way to get those lyrics across."
The new album will serve as the follow-up to 2010's Speak Now, which has sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide since its release last October.
The 21-year-old performer is currently on the North American leg of her world tour and was recently joined on stage by Nicki Minaj in Los Angeles and TI in Atlanta.
