The band's frontman insisted that he doesn't expect any of his family - including wife Gwyneth Paltrow - to listen to his records and that being a father has changed his creative process.
Martin told USA Today: "No-one in our family has to listen to it. My children made me more focused on not wasting time on anything I don't think is worth wasting time on."
He added: "So that's affected my editing process... You don't want to spend months and months doing something and have it turn out terrible.
"You want your kids to be proud, basically. So it gives you extra drive."
Coldplay will release their fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto in the UK on October 24 and the US on October 25.
Martin recently revealed that he turned his daughter's play house into a recording studio.
