The band said that they feared meeting a similar fate to the characters in the 1999 monster movie Lake Placid while shooting the promo for 'Got To Be You'.
Liam Payne told Digital Spy at the Radio 1 Teen Awards: "We shot the video in Lake Placid in upstate New York. There aren't actually any crocodiles there - that's a myth.
"There was a lake by our hotel and we went kayaking to find out. When Niall [Horan] turned the boat over I freaked out because I thought I'd be eaten by an alligator like in the movie!"
Discussing their new single, Louis Tomlinson revealed that it is "a little bit different" to their debut 'What Makes You Beautiful', saying: "Like the first one, it's something that you wouldn't necessarily expect us to release."
Zayn Malik added: "It's a bit more emotive than the last one, but I wouldn't say it was a Christmas ballad. I think it's going to surprise a lot of people."
It was recently reported that the group are at the centre of a record label bidding war in the US.
Their UK tour kicks off on December 21 at Wolverhampton's Civic Hall.
