Turner, who released his debut solo album as the soundtrack to film Submarine earlier this year, said that he was compelled to write slow songs.
"I am a romantic fool, no doubt about that," he told the Baltimore Sun. "I can't help myself but write those songs."
Turner also explained that much of his songwriting process revolves around being alone with an acoustic guitar and smoking out of a window.
"When you do that, you end up doing a lot more of that [romantic] stuff, probably too much," he added.
Turner and television presenter Alexa Chung announced their split in July after four years together.
Arctic Monkeys will begin their UK tour in support of Suck It and See later this month.
