The band's fifth studio set will "easily" debut at the top according to Billboard, where it is estimated to sell 450,000 copies. The number easily outsells their closest rival - Kelly Clarkson's Stronger - by approximately 300,000.
The feat would mark Coldplay's third US chart-topping record, following 2005's X&Y and 2008's Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends.
If they pass the 440,000 sales mark, it will be the largest sales week for a rock album since U2's On The Horizon moved 484,000 units during its first week in 2009.
Meanwhile, Clarkson is on course to land at two with 150,000 and Michael Buble's second holiday record Christmas is at three with sales of 110,000.
