The music network's popular franchise will return in December for a tribute to cities and artists which nurtured the soul genre, and will feature performances by Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Jessie J, Florence + the Machine, Jill Scott and Jennifer Hudson.
Hip-hop band The Roots, who currently appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, will serve as the house band for the event, which benefits the VH1 Save the Music Foundation to fund music education in public schools.
VH1's Executive Vice President of Original Music Production and Development Lee Rolontz said: "This year's telecast will showcase the vast impact soul music has had on the 21st century's music and pop culture landscape as our talented and diverse lineup will attest.
"This year's Divas offers a modern twist on soul music, all while tipping its hat to the legacy of key cities that created this musical heritage."
The VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul concert will be filmed at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on December 18 and will air on VH1 on December 19.
