The Blur frontman and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist have joined together with Albarn's The Good, The Bad & The Queen bandmate Tony Allen under the name Rocketjuice And The Moon.
The band will make their live debut on Saturday October 29 at The Barbican in London, as part of the Another Honest Jon's Chop Up! event.
Albarn told the Irish Times that he did not come up with the name of the band himself.
"Someone in Lagos did the sleeve design and that's the name he gave it, which suits me because trying to find a name for another band is always tricky," he said.
Albarn will also be playing two shows as part of The Good, The Bad & The Queen at The Coronet Theatre on November 10, which will be their first live shows in three years.
