The 'Mr Know It All' singer admitted she has a penchant for writing sad songs, but said that expressing her feelings helps her work through anger.
Clarkson told The AP: "If you look at my whole catalogue, there are far more sadder songs than happy. But that's only because writing is a form of therapy.
"So obviously the things that you're getting out are the things that you've been going through and struggling with. You want to keep all the happy inside. If I'm going through a hard time, I write it out."
Clarkson also said she makes no apologies for being brutally honest about her feelings in songs like 'Since You've Been Gone' and 'Because of You'.
"I'm always vocal. People ask me and I tell them. If I have a problem, I say it. I'm never malicious about it, I just say what happened. And I think a lot of people don't do that. So I think it maybe catches people off guard," she admitted.
"I don't know any other way to be but honest - musically or personally. So I guess that just comes through."
Clarkson previously commented that she's glad she never fell victim to the trappings of fame.
She will perform with Florence + the Machine and Jessie J on VH1's 2011 Divas Celebrates Soul concert, which airs in December.
