The 'I'm Lovin' It' singer, whose last album was released in 2006, has found success in movie roles in recent years.
Asked by Radio 1's Newsbeat whether his music has been put on the "back burner", Timberlake replied: "I don't really put anything on the back burner.
"I go from project to project and if something comes up that's inspiring and feels like it makes sense and is authentic to me, then… I'm just trying to continue to be inspired."
While attending one of George Michael's concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, Timberlake apparently expressed his desire to work with the 'Careless Whisper' singer.
The 30-year-old, who was recently linked to the Coen Brothers' next film, revealed last week that he wants to someday appear in a musical.
