The band have previously cast doubt on whether they would make a follow-up to their Mercury Prize-winning debut xx, but have now announced that work on the record has already begun.
The trio have set up a new blog xx-xx.co.uk, where they posted: "We have started recording our second album!
"We have also started this blog where we will post our inspirations and pictures and favourite songs."
Following their win at the 2010 Mercury Prize ceremony the group revealed plans to build their own recording studio in which to make new material.
Since The xx finished promoting their debut, member Jamie Smith has worked as a DJ and producer, remixing tracks by Radiohead, Adele and Florence + the Machine.
