The 'Who Says' singer fronted the annual ceremony live from the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Sunday night, where stars including her boyfriend Justin Bieber and Lady GaGa picked up prizes.
Writing on her official Facebook page after the event, she said: "Thank you MTV for having me host the EMA this year. Thank you to all that followed me throughout this weekend.
"Thank you to everyone who tuned into this year's MTV EMA I had such an amazing time!!! I love you all."
Gomez had previously told fans that she was "running around crazy" in the build-up to the event, admitting: "I never would have imagined how much work it is to host an awards show."
The 19-year-old also performed at the ceremony, treating the audience to a rendition of her track 'Hit The Lights' from third studio album When The Sun Goes Down. She had earlier told reporters that it was "probably the biggest performance" she had ever done.
Gomez described her hosting role as a "dream come true", adding in a video blog posted to the official website that she wanted to make her mark as a host.
"[The awards show] last year was pretty awesome," she said. "[Host] Eva Longoria was beautiful and amazing. This year my goal is to make it my own and hope everybody and the viewers have a good time."
Lady GaGa was the night's biggest winner, taking home prizes including 'Best Female' and 'Best Song' for 'Born This Way'. Other winners included Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Adele and Thirty Seconds To Mars.
