The group insisted that they are not disbanding, but will pursue solo projects for the next few years during a planned break.
"We always have two cycles of records and then take a break," will.i.am explained on Ellen. "When we take breaks we work on side-projects or get a little personal stuff in order to then come back and make beautiful music."
Host Ellen DeGeneres then questioned Fergie on whether she would be using the time to start a family.
The singer responded: "Yes, Taboo did an interview the other day and it was lovely because I'm now on baby bump watch!"
She joked: "It's when paparazzi go right into your stomach - it's really a lot of fun. But yeah, that's one of the things I want to do.
"I've been touring since 2003 and like anything, things get monotonous and you end up doing the same things every night. I'd like to go days without wearing any make-up!"
