The mixtape, slated to drop in December 2009, was released on Thanksgiving as a thank-you to his fans.
Friend of the People consists of 12 tracks and features artists and producers including Ellie Goulding, Nero, Skrillex, Soundtrakk, Justice and Bassnectar.
Fiasco's fourth studio album Food and Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album will be released in 2012.
Earlier this year, Fiasco dropped his third album Lasers, which he described as being on "another level".
The 'Words I Never Said' rapper famously commented that he is fighting terrorism with his music while expressing his disappointment in US President Barack Obama.
"In my fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama, and the United States of America," Fiasco said. "I'm trying to fight the terrorism that's actually causing the other forms of terrorism."
